Your Privacy, Protected
Last updated: August 16, 2025
We believe in privacy-first design. Your data stays yours, always.
This Privacy Policy explains how the Pin the Web browser extension ("Extension", "we", "our") handles information. The short version: the Extension stores your pins, highlights, notes, and page snapshots locally on your device only. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data to our servers or to third parties.
What the Extension does
- • Lets you place pins or text highlights on any webpage and add a short note.
- • Optionally captures a screenshot of the visible tab when you save a pin, so you can preview it later.
- • Shows and manages your saved items in the Extension's options page.
Data we process
- • Pins and highlights: the item's ID, creation time, URL key, and minimal anchor info needed to render the pin or highlight back on the page.
- • Notes you type for a pin or highlight (up to a small character limit).
- • Optional snapshot image of the visible tab at the moment you save.
- • Local UI state (e.g., filters, sorting).
We do not collect account data, browsing history, analytics, advertising identifiers, or location.
Where your data is stored
- • Pins, highlights, and notes:
chrome.storage.local
on your device. - • Snapshot images: the Extension's IndexedDB on your device.
- • No cloud storage, no sync, no background uploads.
Network and third parties
- • The Extension does not send any of your data to external servers.
- • No third‑party analytics, no advertising SDKs, no remote code, and no data brokers.
- • Support emails you send to us are handled only to respond to your request.
Browser permissions we request and why
- • storage: Save your pins, highlights, and notes locally, and update them when you edit or delete.
- • activeTab: Act on the current page after your explicit action (right‑click or shortcut), e.g., place a pin and request a snapshot.
- • contextMenus: Provide "Pin Here" and "Pin Selection" in the page's right‑click menu.
- • tabs: Capture a screenshot of the visible tab on demand, open the Extension's pages, and focus the correct tab for a saved pin.
- • host permissions ("<all_urls>"): Allow the content script to render your pins and highlights on the pages you choose. We only read minimal page text around your selection to restore highlights and never transmit it off-device.
Data retention and deletion
- • Your data remains on your device until you delete it.
- • You can delete individual items or "Delete all" from the options page.
- • Uninstalling the Extension removes its local storage and database from your browser.
Security
- • Data remains local to the browser profile and is isolated by the browser's extension sandbox.
- • Snapshot images can contain sensitive page content at the time of capture; use the feature only where appropriate.
Children's privacy
The Extension is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information.
Your rights (GDPR/CCPA and similar)
- • Because we do not collect or store your data on our servers, requests to access, correct, port, or delete are performed by you directly in the Extension (options page) or by uninstalling the Extension.
- • We do not sell or share personal information.
International transfers
None. Data does not leave your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Extension evolves. We will change the "Last updated" date above and publish the new version at this page.
